First released in the '60s, the Hummingbird was Gibson's first official square shouldered acoustic. Another symbol of Gibson's innovative approach in creating instruments with impeccable craftsmanship, beauty and character, the Hummingbird features a colorful pickguard with hummingbird and floral decorations, and a gorgeous heritage cherry sunburst finish. A solid spruce top, solid mahogany back and sides, and Gibson's scalloped bracing and dovetail neck joint combine to produce
a warm, sweet tone. Mother of pearl parallelograms are inlaid in the rosewood fingerboard, and the headstock features the Gibson script and crown in mother of pearl as well. The resilience of this durable wood makes the fingerboard extremely balanced and stable, and gives each chord and note unparalleled clarity and bite. The Hummingbirds split parallelogram inlays are made of genuine mother of pearl, and are inserted into the fingerboard using a process that eliminates gaps. The fingerboard also sports a rolled edgeinstead of the usual right angle where the fingerboard surface meets the neck, Gibson Acoustics rolled edges are slightly beveled for an extremely smooth and comfortable feel, enhancing the playability of the Hummingbird.Body Tonewoods back, sides and topThe body design of the Hummingbird is known as a square shoulder dreadnought. The top is made from AAA grade Sitka spruce, while the back and sides are constructed from mahogany, giving the Hummingbird a perfectly balanced midrange tone, with unbiased rich lows and clear treble registers.
